Pottery Classes at Carolina Clay Connection

Learn to throw on the potter's wheel. All levels, beginner through advanced. Instructor - Leon Nichols, master potter. Most sessions are 8-weeks, summer session is 6-weeks.
The Wednesday morning class includes some handbuilding.

Sculpture classes – figurative sculpture, instructor – Chase Winfield
 $35 per class, plus clay, usually mornings, by appointment only
Classes are very small, call first to reserve space.

Beginners are welcome. Call to register, as class size is limited and priority is given to currently enrolled students.
Please note that due to heavy demand, we usually have a waiting list so put your name on it several months prior to the class. We usually have a waiting list, so if you are interested, please get your name on the list a month or two before the class begins.
Class includes firing of class work and house glazes.
Dress for mess! Wear clay clothes, bring an old towel, a large sponge for clean-up, and a small bucket. You will need a basic pottery tool kit, available to our students at a discount. To register, call, come in, or fax registration.

Short Classes 2010

If you just have a day or two to spare, and family and work comittments keep you from taking a longer course, then these may be for you! You may get a small group together and call us to arrange any of the following classes or stay tuned for dates:

Glaze Making - Learn all about glazing: application methods, and mixing glazes up from scratch. An intensive class,you will come away knowing how to mix your own glazes from a recipe and what the different ingredients do.  Prepare some test tiles for this class.
Time: 6:00 - 8:00 pm, Cost $25 per class, best to take all

Glass Fusing
- Learn the basics of glass fusing and slumping.
Make about five pieces (jewlery size)
Thursday, July 22,   6:00 - 7:30 pm
Cost $25 per class plus $20 for glass supplies

Taking the Mystery out of Firing - How to load and fire and electric kiln, including using an electronic controller. Free if you buy a kiln from us!
Cost $15 per class

Handbuilding Techniques - Explore slab, coil, pinch methods, Hands on class.
Wednesday mornings, 10:00 - 12:30. or by appointment for a small group
Cost $25

Tile Making & Design Techniques - Surface decoration and basics of making your own custom tiles, and/or using bisque tiles to make a mural or tile project. Get a group together and we can schedule a class.
Cost $25 per class.

Independent Study - explore a clay project of your choice. Use of studio including supervision of project with professional consultation. Times to be arranged.
Cost $30 per two hour session

Sculpture Classes

2010 Wildacres Weekend Sculpture Workshop-October
Save the date:  October 8-10, 2010!
Spend a wonderful, cool weekend in the North Carolina mountains experiencing our annual sculpture retreat. Wildacres is a fantastic artist and writers retreat located near Little Switzerland. The workshop includes lodging, all meals, and expert instruction featuring sculptor Chase Winfield, and assisted by Jinny Hargrave. Figurative or abstract sculpture can be explored. Space is limited to the first ten participants. Cost is $215 which is inclusive of lodging, meals and the workshop, except clay. Clay can be purchased at the workshop or you can bring your own.
