Pottery Classes at Carolina Clay Connection

Learn to throw on the potter's wheel. All levels, beginner through advanced. Instructor - Leon Nichols, master potter. Most sessions are 8-weeks, summer session is 6-weeks.
The Wednesday morning class includes some handbuilding.

We can arrange a private pottery class. Call for details.

Sculpture classes – figurative sculpture, instructor – Chase Winfield
$60, private class, usually mornings, by appointment only
$40 each for two person class.
Classes are very small, call first to reserve space.

Beginners are welcome. Call to register, as class size is limited and priority is given to currently enrolled students.
Please note that due to heavy demand, we usually have a waiting list so put your name on it several months prior to the class. Class includes firing of class work and house glazes.
Dress for mess! Wear clay clothes, bring an old towel, a large sponge for clean-up, and a small bucket. You will need a basic pottery tool kit, available to our students at a discount. To register, call, come in, or fax registration. 

We are located in the South End area, just south of downtown Charlotte, near Dilworth.

Short Classes 2013

Summer short classes  August 2013 at Carolina Clay Connection:

 

Glass Fusing--Try your hand at glass fusing.  Up to 5 small jewelry items will be made.  Includes glass and firing.  

Thursday, August 1         Time:  2:00-4:00 or 6:00-8:00        Cost: $45 (includes materials and firing charge)

 

Loosey-Goosey Play Day-  Make something whimsical!!!   A clay play day designed for you to go a little crazy and try something new.  Unleash your creativity!  Clay and underglazes will be provided, or you can bring some of your own bisque ware to try some new funky design work.  Bring your own lunch or go to a local restaurant.  Bring your own tools and brushes.

Sunday, August 4             Time: 11:00- 4:00              Cost:  $25

 

Tile Making--Learn how to make custom tiles. Sculpting, carving, and various surface designs will be explored. Included is a discussion of drying and firing to minimize warping.  Includes  materials.  Bring your pottery tools.

Tuesday, August 6           Time: 2:00-4:00 or 6:00-8:00         Cost: $25

 

Basket making--Learn how to make baskets using long leaf pine needles. OK, so this isn’t clay, but a potter is teaching it! Try your hand at something different.  All materials provided. Take home a unique basket.

2013 Wildacres Weekend Workshops


October 18-20, 2013- Sculpture Workshop!

Dates for 2014 not announced yet. Spend a wonderful, cool weekend in the North Carolina mountains experiencing our annual sculpture retreat. Wildacres is a fantastic artist and writers retreat located near Little Switzerland. The workshop includes lodging, all meals, and expert instruction featuring sculptor Chase Winfield, and assisted by Jinny Hargrave. Figurative or abstract sculpture can be explored. Space is limited to the first ten participants. Cost is $225 which is inclusive of lodging, meals and the workshop, except clay. Clay can be purchased at the workshop or you can bring your own.
